QuickTest Pro support?

Hi,

Does MindFusion provide any libraries that will enable the FlowChart.Net control to be recognized in the QuickTest Pro testing tool? We use QuickTest to automate GUI testing of our product. We would like to be able to record user actions in the Flowchart  into a test script which can then be replayed. However, the FlowChart.Net control is only recognized in QuickTest as a generic object.

Thanks,
Milind

Hi,

Is this the tool you need support for - http://www.mercury.com/us/products/quality-center/functional-testing/quicktest-p... ? We haven't used it, but we can take a look at it in the next few days.

Yes, thats the one. Can you post an update after you have reviewed it about your plans to support it?

Thanks,
Milind

Yes, we are just downloading the QuickTest Core and .NET Plugin evaluation versions. The "How to simplify .NET testing" whitepaper from the Mercury site mentions there is a way to provide high-level support for third-party .NET controls. I will let you know when we find out how that works.

We have checked the QuickTest .NET Extensibility Guide, and it seems easy enough to implement support for QuickTest. From our point of view, that's a matter of recording event names and parameter values when FlowChart.NET raises an UI event, and adding a method to replay a recorded event. We could realize that as a standard FlowChart.NET feature that allows recording and replaying macros. Thus the QuickTest support would be just a thin wrapper around that functionality.

Yet, implementation for macro recording / QuickTest support will be a lot of work, because FlowChart.NET has more than 100 events. We cannot start with it before we complete our current major projects - FlowChart.NET V.5 and the first version of our ASP.NET diagramming control, both of which we hope to release in the beginning of March. We will also have to contact HP/Mercury to see if they would require any royalties if we distribute FlowChart.NET with built-in support for QuickTest .

It would be nice to know how popular that feature will be with other FlowChart.NET users, so if anyone needs macro recording capabilities, or more explicitly, QuickTest Pro support, please reply in this thread.
